An increase of cytosolic Ca2+ in the unicellular green alga Eremosphaera viridis activities Ca2+-dependent K+ channels causing a hyperpolarization of the plasma membrane. Data from parallel calcium, and potential measurements were combined with I/V relationships. This yielded a steep Ca2+-dependence of K+ channels with a co-operativity of 4 and an affinity of 300 nM.
